Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My baby is eight days old. Poops are in the form of more liquid consistency. I feed my baby every two hours. Please help.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

It is quite normal for newborns to have frequent bowel movements, and their stools can vary in consistency. At eight days old, your baby's digestive system is still developing, and the frequency of bowel movements can be high. It is normal for breastfed babies to have several bowel movements a day and for formula-fed babies to have fewer. The consistency of your baby's stools can also vary. At this stage, it is common for them to be soft or even runny. As long as your baby is feeding well, gaining weight, and not in pain or discomfort, frequent bowel movements are nothing to worry about. However, you should contact your doctor if you notice any signs of dehydration, such as a decrease in wet diapers or a sunken soft spot on the baby's head. Generally, it is essential to feed your baby frequently, every two to three hours, to ensure they are getting enough nutrition and to help keep them hydrated. If you have concerns about your baby's bowel movements or are in pain or discomfort, it is better to check with your doctor.

I hope this information will help.

Thanks.
