I have lower abdominal pain and diarrhea. Why?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My husband is 28 years old. He had diarrhea for three days. He had vomited once and loose motions for about 7 to 8 times. Then, it stopped after taking Enterogermina thrice, and he also had Electral.

Then, the next day, he had outside food, but bland and non-spicy. He again has loose motions from yesterday. He is taking Enterogermina, but not yet cured. He is feeling weak and tired. His hands, feet, and lips are all dry. He has joint pains and lower abdominal pain.

I have attached a picture showing the area. He also has pain in the back, exactly behind the area marked in the picture. He has very mild burning sensation while urinating since this morning.

Is the stomach issue and this one related? Please clarify. He has an erratic sleep pattern. He sleeps very late at night and has a stressful job.

He has GERD and gastritis. He has been taking Pantocid 40 mg for three months.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed all the information provided.

Based on the data posted, it appears that the patient is dehydrated. I would recommend providing plenty of liquids such as water with ORS (oral rehydration salts), fruit juices, and coconut water to maintain hydration.

Hydration is the main treatment for patients with gastroenteritis.

Please continue Enterogermina (probiotic), and I also suggest taking capsule AD 100 (Racecadotril) thrice daily for 3 days. It is important to consult your specialist doctor, discuss the treatment plan, and take the medication with their consent.

Monitor the patient's condition today, and if there is no improvement or if they develop a fever, then it would be advisable to get a complete blood picture, serum electrolytes, and stool routine done. By reviewing the reports, we can determine whether antibiotics are necessary or not.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
