Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been having loose motions for a week. I had taken tablets Ciprofloxacin and Tinidazole for three days, but they did not work. Then I took the tablet Ofloxacin for another five days, but it is not working either. Sometimes, I also have blood in my stools if I take even a small quantity of spicy food. I am feeling very weak nowadays.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I suggest you do a microscopic and routine examination and culture of the stools to identify the causative organism. Also, you must take ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) and get serum electrolytes done to check if there is any electrolyte deficiency since you feel weak.

Please get these tests done urgently. If your blood pressure is too low, you may need intravenous saline, but first, take ORS and do the tests. You can also take an oral Metronidazole tablet 400 mg thrice daily for five days as you have bloody diarrhea, but you need a prescription for that.

I hope this helps.

Take care.
