Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My wife is 32 years old. We were living a happy life, and we decided to become parents. So she conceived and gave birth to a girl child two weeks back. But after that, she seemed to be worried all the time. I do not know what is making her feel sad. This is new, she has never been like this before. I will be around her all the time, but she is depressed and sometimes angry too. She keeps crying in the night keeping the baby in her hands.

Do I have to take this seriously or is it normal during this time?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your situation and concern about your wife. It is a serious thing. Your wife may have postpartum blues or postpartum depression or postpartum psychosis. She needs a detailed evaluation by the nearest psychiatrist. Please do not leave your wife and child together alone. It will be life-threatening to your child if your wife may have psychosis. So there must be someone with your wife and child. You must allow your wife to take care of your child but someone should stay with her.

Thank you.
