What causes poor concentration and constant fatigue?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 23-year-old female, and I have been struggling with concentration and focus on my studies for a very long time. I find it extremely difficult to wake up in the morning; it is as if I lack any motivation to get out of bed. I also noticed that I do not enjoy talking to people as much as I used to. It feels like my mind is constantly racing, and I am always tired. I am in a field where studying is crucial, but I cannot seem to concentrate. I have tried almost everything, from motivational videos to meditation, but I cannot find a way out. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. First of all, I would advise you to get yourself evaluated by a psychiatrist. Have your B12 and vitamin D levels checked, as deficiency in these vitamins is one of the main reasons for fatigue, lack of motivation, and depressive symptoms in adults. Additionally, get a thyroid function test done to rule out hypothyroidism, which could be the cause of your symptoms.

If all these tests come back normal, then visit a psychiatrist for a comprehensive evaluation and treatment. This could be related to a depressive disorder. Medications like SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) such as Fluoxetine, Escitalopram, or Paroxetine, among others, can be used to improve your symptoms, including motivation. These medications can help you feel better.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
