Why is a tooth infection not reduced by taking painkillers?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 19-year-old female suffering from tooth infection and have been on the tablet Ibuprofen 800 mg thrice daily, but it was not effective. Should I continue the medication?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern.

Since you have taken the double dosage, you might face acidity, gastric irritation or ulcer, and other symptoms like constipation, nausea, and mild headache. If you face gastric irritation or acidity, do not eat spicy or aerated drinks for a few weeks.

But, since you have said that the problem is an infection, antibiotics are usually prescribed that subside the infection and thus reduce pain. I suggest you take the tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg once daily half an hour before food if you continue your current medication.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
