What are the child tooth extraction side effects?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My daughter is five and a half years old. Her weight is 61.7 pounds and her height is 4 feet 2 inches. She has had a cavity in the last two teeth on both lower sides. She has been taking Ibugesic Plus (10 ml), Augmentin (8 ml), and Metrogyl suspension (8 ml) till yesterday. The doctor has advised the extraction of one tooth and RCT for other teeth. But is extraction only the last option? Will this extraction result in any problem in her speech? Also, will this extraction create a problem in her permanent teeth eruption?

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

However, the advice tendered by the dentist, in this case, is alright. There is no problem with the extraction if appropriately done, and in the meantime, to retain space for permanent teeth, a space maintainer can be planned by a dentist. So there is nothing to worry about.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the response.

Is tooth extraction the only possible solution? Is RCT not feasible for the same? Also, will there be any problem with the eruption of permanent teeth in the absence of primary teeth? Will there be any effect on the speech of the child?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The removal of teeth will not affect speech. However, procedures like a pulpectomy or a pulpotomy can be done instead of extraction. As I could not do an oral examination of the patient and do not have the teeth photographs, I cannot say under what circumstances the doctor has advised for extraction. So it is better if you can send a photograph of the involved teeth on both sides.

I hope this information was helpful.

We appreciate your comments and use them to make patient care better.

Thank you.
