Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 21 years old. I had protected sex but still missed my periods. I did the pregnancy test three times, and it was negative. However, I have period symptoms like cramps. Why am I not getting my period?
Kindly advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Factors like strenuous exercise, strict diet, illness, medications, and hormonal intake can delay periods. Do you have abnormal growth, sudden weight gain, or other symptoms?
I suggest you get a serum beta hCG test to rule out pregnancy. If the test comes negative, you can have menstrual induction by taking the tablet Primolut N (Norethisterone) 10 mg twice daily for five days and waiting for a week for the periods to start. (Consult a specialist doctor, talk to him or her, and start the medicine with their consent).
Also, I suggest you get serum progesterone, serum testosterone, luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, insulin, thyroid function tests, and a transvaginal scan done when not in menses.
I hope this helps.
Good luck.
