Patient's Query
Hello Doctor,
My period has been late for 13 days as of today. My period is typically on time or varies only slightly, which worries me. I was sexually active but used protection every time. I am not on birth control, nor did I use the morning-after pill. I have taken two home pregnancy tests (one at night and one in the morning), but both were negative. I was late for three to four days. These past few days, I have had a slight pressure in the middle of my upper stomach, below my ribs. It just kind of makes me feel full. Any help would be wonderful.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
If you have already had two tests negative, I do not think you need to worry. Pregnancy need not be the only reason for delayed periods.
Possibilities of missed periods could be,
1. Any sudden recent increase or delay in weight.
2. Any significant mental or physical stress, anxiety, depression, or happiness.
3. Thyroid or Prolactin hormone abnormality.
4. Till the age of 19-21 years, periods are irregular due to the imbalance of hormones.
If any of these are present, have it corrected. or wait for it to get corrected. Have any of the birth control pills like Novelone (Desogestrel and Ethinylestradiol), Ovral-G (Ethinylestradiol and Norgestrel), Duoluton-L (Levonorgestrel (0.25 Mg) + Ethinylestradiol (0.05 Mg)), or Intimacy plus 3 (Desogestrel and Ethinylestradiol). Have any of these one tablet twice a day for ten days (throw away the 21st pill). No matter what the cause is (except pregnancy), you will have periods within seven to ten days of the last pill.
Your weight and body mass index are not mentioned correctly. Your weight has to be
Weight (in kgs)= Height (in cms)-100.
Your expected weight is 116-120 pounds.
Once you reduce weight to the normal range, you will not need any medicine to get periods or to get pregnant, and pregnancy will be healthy.
To reduce weight -
As soon as you reduce at least 10 pounds, you will see changes. I know it is not possible to come to this range, but even a slight fall in weight will surely help you not only to get pregnant but also to continue a healthy pregnancy. Hope I have clarified your query, do write back if you have any more queries.
All the best.
Thank you.
