What could be the reason for delayed periods?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My period is late for 11 days. I have tested negative for pregnancy six times so far. I feel all symptoms like I am about to get my period but it is not coming. I do not have any conditions other than a dermoid cyst on one of my ovaries but that is under control, and also my period never skipped this much and is regular most of the time.

I do not feel like I have been under stress lately, the only thing I recall was a common cold, I had an issue with corneal abrasion and surgery three months ago, and we are renovating our apartment. Also, I worked 12 hours for two weeks daily. Is there still a chance I am pregnant?

Please help me. Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Sometimes periods might get delayed by one or two weeks because of stress or a recent illness. So I would suggest waiting for one more week, and even after one week period did not come, then do a urine pregnancy test for clear results because there is a possibility that in the early days kit might show false results. I would also like to add that ovarian dermoid cysts should get operated on as early as possible, because it may cause difficulties in the future.

I hope this information helps you. Feel free to ask further queries.

Thank you.
