Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My periods had been delayed. I had protected sex on the last day of my period cycle and got dengue fever the next day. I am worried about it.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

Many factors can delay periods, like hormonal imbalance, illness, medications, medical issues, contraceptive pills, etc. As you suffered from dengue fever, the medications and illness can delay periods due to an inflammatory or viral cycle inside the body.

So, I suggest you do a serum beta-hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) blood pregnancy test to check your pregnancy status. I also suggest you take a healthy diet, go for regular walks, and indulge in recreational activities.

If the pregnancy test comes negative, I suggest you wait for some time, or you can even have a menstrual induction. Take a tablet of Norethisterone (Progestin) 10 milligrams twice daily for five to seven days to induce menstrual bleeding, and wait for bleeding in the next one to two weeks. However, I suggest you wait as the body is still in the recovery phase.

Kindly consult a specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medicines with their consent.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
