Is good sleep necessary for the brain development of a 6-month-old baby?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a mother of a 6-month-old baby, and I feel my baby does not sleep properly. I have heard my parents saying only if the baby sleeps well will there be good brain development. I am scared because my baby does not sleep well. He wakes up even if he hears a little sound. For that reason, I do not let anyone enter the baby’s room while he is sleeping but still, even if I cough or whisper, he wakes up. How to handle this situation? Is it normal? Which is the best sleeping position for a 6-month-old baby?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Do not worry. All babies wake up for every small noise or sound. It does not have any effect on their brains. It is just a myth. Make your baby sleep over the tummy, with the head turned to one side; babies like this position.

Thanks.
