Why am I unable to concentrate on my studies like other children?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a problem while studying. I force myself to study, but I struggle a lot. I cannot focus. It takes me three hours or more to recite simple answers. I end up having the guilt of why I cannot focus like other children. I have been facing this problem for years. There is no problem with distraction. I cannot study. It becomes difficult to study and focus on something more than one and a half hours together.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your situation. You need to make your study interesting so it will be easy to learn. You are 21 years old, so you will have difficulty remembering as you did in childhood. After 16 years of age, you have a conceptual memory, which means you will remember concepts, not word for word.

  1. Do some meditation.
  2. Do a group study.
  3. Make a pneumonic and an image to remember your topics.
  4. Make flowcharts.
  5. Take a break in between studies.
  6. Do not force, but love, your study. Do smart work, not hard work.

I hope it helps.

Thank you.
