How to treat acne and the post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation caused by it?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had acne problems for the past four years. Unfortunately, it is creating dark spots on my face as well. What should I do? Please give me your suggestions.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

According to your history, the post-acne dark spots or marks are usually called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which appears in response to long-standing acne left without treatment. Habitual picking of acne and reduction of inflammation leads to dark spots. So I suggest you to follow the instructions mentioned below. Use Aziderm (Azelaic Acid) cream; apply twice daily on the dark spots and acne for two months only. Use AHA glow face wash (rejuvenating gel face wash) twice daily. Apply and massage in gentle circular motions and wash within one minute. Take capsule Evion (vitamin E supplement) 400 mg once daily after dinner for one month. Take chewable tablet Limcee 500 (vitamin C supplement). Chew one tablet after breakfast for one month. In case of severe hyperpigmentation, you can try chemical peels for the face once a month which takes a period of six months. It requires an in-person consultation with a dermatologist or cosmetologist. It will help fade away the marks quickly. Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them and take the medications with their consent. I hope this helped you out. Take care.
