Can individuals with PCOS experience cryptic pregnancies?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am experiencing a delay of 24 days in my menstrual cycle, according to my period tracking application. Due to my polycystic ovary syndrome condition, I usually have irregular periods or may miss them altogether. I started tracking my cycle last year and had regular periods for five months, but missed it three months ago. My most recent menstrual period happened two months back. According to my research, individuals with PCOS like me may experience cryptic pregnancies, which concerns me because I have not experienced any significant symptoms apart from the absence of periods. I noticed some creamy pink discharge last month. Can you please help me?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your case and understand your concern.

Cryptic pregnancy is rare compared to delayed periods in PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) but still, if you are sexually active you should check it by either a urine pregnancy test or hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) levels. That pink discharge could be menstrual bleeding because there is scanty menstruation in PCOS. Weight and PCOS are correlated to each other, so you should maintain your weight within BMI (body mass index). Regular exercise, and diet along with medications will help you a lot in curing PCOS. Are you taking any medicines for PCOS? If not then you should if you have irregular menstruation.

Hope this information helps you, for further queries, you can reconnect.

Thank you.
