Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 30-year-old female. I have been experiencing abdominal pain and diarrhea frequently. Occasionally, I also notice blood in my stools. Concerned about my symptoms, I consulted my family physician and was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. I want to understand what Crohn's disease is and how it differs from other inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Could you also explain how Crohn's disease is diagnosed? Additionally, I would like to know about the available treatment options for Crohn's disease. Are there any medications, lifestyle changes, or alternative therapies that have shown promise in managing the symptoms and improving the overall quality of life? Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern. Firstly, I would like to inform you that Crohn's disease is an inflammatory bowel disease that affects the large intestine, particularly the terminal ileum. It can be distinguished on X-ray by the cobblestone appearance of the intestinal wall. Crohn's disease can be diagnosed through a contrast abdominal X-ray. Treatment options include injectables and tablets. Medications such as Infliximab administered at zero, two, and six weeks, and then every eight weeks thereafter, along with tablet containing Mesalazine have been effective. Lifestyle modifications like increasing dietary fiber intake and consuming fruits and vegetables are also recommended. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Thank you.
