Are period cramps symptoms of ovarian cancer?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have period cramps 15 days before starting periods—abdominal pain for only 10 minutes two or three times a day and in the early morning. Sometimes pain affects near parts of the legs. Is this a severe problem? Are these symptoms of ovarian cancer?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

The pain is due to the contraction of the uterine muscle and the arteries, because of which the bleeding happens. This is something psychological. Some people have more pain, some moderate, and some have no pain during their cycle. If you experience excruciating pain, you can safely take a painkiller like Mefenamic acid twice daily to decrease the pain. It is safe to take painkillers, stay hydrated, and use warm water bags on the back and abdomen to ease the pain. Consult a specialist doctor and take medications with their consent.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
