Can Primolut or Sysron N delay periods in unmarried women?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 34-year-old unmarried female. My last cycle was two weeks back. I want to postpone my next period by almost 10 days. Should I take Primolut or Sysron N for delaying my periods? I have a 30 to 35 days cycle. Please suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As per your description, you want to have some hormonal pills in advance to delay periods for 10 days. The body takes time to adjust according to hormonal support to induce or delay periods. Start Primolut N (Norethisterone) 10 mg twice daily 7 to 10 days before the expected date of periods. You have to continue medication twice daily 10 mg till 3 to 4 days before you want to have the periods. You will get a withdrawal bleed within 1 to 2 weeks. Periods might get upset for a few months as well. Mood variations, breast engorgement also can be observed.
