Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

We used an emergency pill three days after my wife's period ended.

Her cycle usually lasts from 28 to 30 days. She has not experienced her periods now after one month.

Should I be worried about pregnancy or the effects of the pill? We have not had sex since that day.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

As your wife has a 28 days cycle, her ovulation would be around the fourteenth day of the menstrual cycle, provided it is regular. (The first day of her period will be the first day of the cycle). If you had intercourse before the day she had taken the pill, it is not the most fertile period, but there are always possibilities to conceive if there is a fluctuation of ovulation.

Since I do not have information regarding the interval between intercourse and emergency pill intake, I cannot tell you exactly. However, if your wife had taken the pill within 72 hrs of unprotected intercourse, the chances of her not being pregnant are very high.

Menstrual irregularities, painful menstruation, and headaches are the most common side effects of the emergency pill. So do not worry about this as this could be a side effect of the pill as you have had intercourse in the least fertile period and have taken an emergency pill within 72 hrs of unprotected intercourse.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
