Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I took five contraceptive pills (Yasmin) 24 hours after unprotected sex, and four days later, I experienced light vaginal bleeding that lasted for five days. I am uncertain whether this is a regular period or implantation bleeding.

Hi,

We welcome you to icliniq family.

I appreciate the confidence you place in me for your healthcare consultation. I understand your concern.

Emergency contraception, like taking multiple contraceptive pills after unprotected sex, is designed to prevent pregnancy by inhibiting or delaying ovulation. However, it is important to note that it is not 100 percent effective, and there is still a chance of pregnancy even when used correctly. The bleeding you experienced is more likely a result of the contraceptive pills you took. It is important to be aware that taking five pills, as you did, is not safe. One contraceptive pill, when taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, is usually effective and safe. Taking multiple pills can lead to serious side effects and hormonal imbalances. Please avoid doing this in the future for your own health and well-being.

Thank you for consulting me.
