Can a moisturizer cause a red rash on the penis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I used a moisturizer on my penis and wore a tight undergarment a few days back. Since a week, I have had a red rash on my penis, and the skin is itchy. However, there is no pain. I have not used any powder or cream for the rash. Is the rash because of the moisturizer that I have used? Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thank you for sharing the pictures. I have reviewed them (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). It appears to be allergic contact dermatitis due to friction. Always clean the area with mild soap. I suggest the below treatment plan. Cream Candid-B (Clotrimazole and Beclomethasone) is to be applied twice daily. Take Tablet Levocetirizine 5 mg once at night for seven days. Take Tablet Fluconazole 150 mg single tablet after the meal. Consult a specialist doctor, talk to him or her and start the treatment with their consent. I hope this helps. Thank you.
