Why does my 5-year-old girl's poop appear like small hard balls?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

This query is about a 5-year-old girl with consistent belly pain above the belly button.

It started a little over a month ago and she has vomited a few times throughout that time period. Her eating has diminished and she complains of pain after she eats.

Her abdomen X-ray was done three times. The first time it showed constipation. The second time, it showed an increase in constipation, and then we started enemas, suppositories, and Lactulose. The third X-ray showed an improvement in constipation. Then acid reflux medicine was started, but she still complained of belly pain.

The child is missing almost every day of school or being picked up early, does not eat much, and lays around most of the day.

She has been going to the bathroom; however, the poop appears like small hard balls.

Kindly advise on what to do?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please give the child Muout powder (Polyethylene Glycol) (2 scoops) in 1 glass of water early morning on an empty stomach for 2 weeks, along with plenty of water throughout the day for 10 days.

Reduce intake of bread and bread products, milk, chocolates, and chips and increase water intake (1 liter/day) for long-term benefits regarding constipation.

Please do contact me again if needed.

Thank you.
