Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been experiencing symptoms in my eyes for the past two days, including a severe burning sensation, thick mucus discharge, and bilateral involvement. My eyes feel hot to the touch, appear inflamed, and are watery. I also notice slight blurred vision and a sense of pressure. Cold compresses somewhat relieve the discomfort, and I find myself keeping my eyes closed frequently due to the irritation.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
Based on what you describe, severe burning in both eyes, thick mucus discharge, redness, swelling, watery irritation, pressure, and some blurred vision, this sounds very consistent with a significant eye infection, most likely acute conjunctivitis (which can be bacterial or viral). The fact that you are having thick mucus points more toward a bacterial cause, although viral infections can sometimes behave similarly. The temporary relief you feel from cold compresses is expected, as they help reduce inflammation.
I recommend you seek an in-person eye examination as soon as possible, especially because you mention blurred vision and swelling. These are warning signs that it could be more than a simple conjunctivitis, such as keratitis or another severe infection.
In the meantime,
Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes.
Wash your hands frequently.
Do not share towels or pillowcases to prevent the spread of infection.
Over-the-counter artificial tears (without redness relievers) may help with comfort, and you can continue using cold compresses for relief. If you notice worsening pain, sensitivity to light, or rapid vision changes, please treat this as urgent and go directly to an emergency department or see an eye specialist.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
