Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been married for a year, and we are still not blessed with a child. I am 28 years old, and my husband is 29. My menstrual cycles are regular, although I have experienced delays of a few days occasionally. My height is 5 feet 2 inches, and I weigh 160 pounds. My gynecologist advised me to continue trying and suggested that I should also work on losing weight. However, no specific tests were conducted. I have also started taking folic acid and Clomiphene in case of infertility issues by myself. I am seeking guidance on whether these decisions are appropriate. Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
Your gynecologist's advice to lose weight is crucial. Being overweight may affect your ovulation, leading to irregular or poor-quality egg production. It is excellent that you have decided to take folic acid. However, if you suspect an ovulation disorder, it is essential to consult a doctor before considering ovulation-inducing drugs. Always take such medications under proper medical supervision. I suggest you conduct the following tests on the second day of your menstrual cycle while fasting:
FSH (Follicle-stimulating hormone).
LH (Luteinizing hormone).
TSH (Thyroid-stimulating hormone)
Prolactin.
AMH (Anti-müllerian hormone).
FBS (Fasting blood sugar).
Fasting insulin levels.
I suggest to perform a semen analysis test after three days of abstinence for your husband. Consider getting a pelvic ultrasound done on the second day of your menses to rule out any potential pelvic issues.
Remember, consulting your doctor and focusing on fitness can significantly improve your chances of achieving a healthy pregnancy.
I hope this helps. Please revert in case of further queries.
Thank you.
