Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My grandmother, 74, suffers from stage 4 colon cancer with liver metastasis. She had weakness and a cough for the past week. She was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with pneumonia. She also has some memory loss and hand tremors. The fever has subsided.
Will she be able to recover from this?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
Colon cancer stage 4 with liver metastasis is advanced with a very poor prognosis but requires good palliative care. Pneumonia has certain symptoms like fever, productive cough, and wheezing. This could have happened due to metastasis to the lungs. Therefore, I would suggest the following:
1. Augmentin (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid) 1 g twice daily for 14 days (in case kidney functions are fine).
2. Follow-up is required to confirm the diagnosis and to exclude any serious conditions.
Consult with a doctor before taking the medicines.
Thank you.
