Can tonsillitis symptoms be related to HIV?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I started Penicillin and developed tonsillitis, or what appeared to be tonsillitis. My streptococcus test came back negative. When I was experiencing symptoms, I thought I might have been exposed to HIV. When the oral rapid saliva test revealed a negative result, should I be concerned?

Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

You might have tonsilitis, pharyngitis, or laryngitis. Why do you think about HIV (human immunodeficiency virus)? Are you exposed to HIV? You go for a quick oral saliva test, which is sensitive to touch even, so the test comes negative.

I suggest the following,

  1. Tentum (Benzydamine (0.15% w/v)) gargles thrice daily before breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

  2. Tablet Augmentin 625 mg (Amoxycillin (500 mg) and Clavulanic Acid (125 mg)) two times a day, after lunch and dinner, for seven days.
  3. Tablet Sigmoflame (Aceclofenac (100 mg), Paracetamol (325 mg), and Serratiopeptidase (15 mg)) three times a day after breakfast, lunch, and dinner for five days.

No cold food or fried things, till you recover. You might be recovered, but if it is a reoccurring disease, do not panic. If you want to test for HIV, go for a rapid Elisa Kit test. If it is negative, no worry; You can not have an HIV infection.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
