Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Yesterday I had my ultrasound, and there is a small cystic lesion of size approx 5.4 mm x 3.4 mm seen in the left lateral ventricle said to be choroid plexus cyst and I am anxious. What should I do? Please advise whether I should terminate or wait till next sonography.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
For your information, a choroid plexus cyst is not considered a structure or functional brain abnormality. Most of these cysts are isolated and occur in otherwise low-risk pregnancies. The only association of some significance between a solitary choroid plexus cyst and the possible fetal problem is with trisomy 18.
For this, when these cysts are found in sonography, we go for the next examinations, the detailed fetal anatomic survey should be performed by an experienced provider. Should run a thorough examination of the fetal heart, which includes four chamber view and outflow tracts view. Plus of the hands, clenching or another abnormal positioning. If no other abnormalities present, the choroid plexus cyst is considered isolated. So, to me should not rush, but wait for a complete fetal examination of sonography tests. Discuss this further with your doctor.
