Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
The laboratory findings are:
Cholesterol, total: 224 (40-200 mg/dl)
Cholesterol, high density lipoproteins: 48 (35-65 mg/dl)
Cholesterol, low density lipoproteins: 177 (70-130 mg/dl)
Triglycerides: 61 (0-200 mg/dl)
I need to consult about this result.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
After looking at your reports, the rest looks fine except for the marginal rise in the lipid profile. Your low density lipoproteins and total cholesterol levels are a little high. This can be managed by regular exercise and avoiding fried and oily foods. As your weight is higher considering your height. The ideal weight for you is about 154.32 Ibs. Try to lose weight through regular physical exercise, which should also help you with your cholesterol levels.
Was it a routine health check-up, or do you have any symptoms? I hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
No, it is a routine checkup.
But I still need the answer about the low density lipoproteins. Does it contain two protein types, one good and the other bad? I am concerned about the ratio between them is less than 1.5.
I need to confirm that to get this ratio, do I need to divide triglyceride by high density lipoprotein?
On the other report, the ferritin is high. Should I worry?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
There are different types of cholesterol in the body. Low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol is bad, and high density lipoprotein (HDL) is good for health. Low density lipoprotein should be less than the normal's upper limit (100), and high density lipoprotein should be higher. Do not get bothered about the ratio. It is merely a division of one form of cholesterol over other. We should aim for total cholesterol of less than 200 mg, low density lipoprotein of less than 100 mg, and triglycerides of less than 150 mg. If they are within the normal range rest of the values, do not worry.
Your ferritin levels are marginally high, but sugar and HbA1c are normal. In general, you have a little higher hemoglobin, which can also happen physiologically, like people staying in high altitudes., You may repeat the same after six months. If the trend is increasing, you may need further evaluation.
I hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
