Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am having symptoms of urinary frequency after antibiotic treatment for chlamydia. I have taken antibiotics Azithromycin and an incomplete course of Ciprofloxacin. The symptoms got better following antibiotic therapy but returned. Hence, I took intravenous Ceftriaxone and took two pills daily of Doxycycline, Trimethoprim and Sulfamethoxazole for ten days. I felt better, but the symptoms returned. Therefore, I got tested for sexually transmitted diseases such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trichomoniasis, and all came back negative. My urine analysis report was also negative. I underwent a prostate exam, which came back normal. But I still have a tingling sensation in the urethra, irritation at the penis tip, and urinary frequency. I have urinary hesitancy and have to wait for 20 to 30 seconds before starting the stream and stopping it. The doctor I consulted suggested that urethral irritation is normal after infection and takes longer to heal and become normal. However, I am still worried and have consulted multiple doctors. I am taking Ofloxacin, Oxaprozin, and occasionally Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine. What can I do? Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. Your doctor is correct that it can take some time for the urethra to heal from the inflammation (urethritis) after an STD (sexually transmitted disease) infection. For some, it will clear up in a month, but for others, it will take up to two to three months.
I suggest you stop the antibiotics once the prescribed duration is over. However, Flomax (Ofloxacin), even though it affects ejaculation, is the correct treatment going forward, at least for a couple of months. Drink at least 101 fluid ounces of water per day.Avoid sitting for prolonged periods in one go.
Depending on your country of residence, add the following drugs:
Tablet Trypsin Chymotrypsin thrice daily.
Tablet Cranpac D (Cranberry and D Mannose) once daily in the morning.
A probiotic tablet once daily in the morning.
Tablet Mirabegron 25 mg once daily in the morning.
Take all the above medications for one month. Consult a specialist doctor, talk to them, and then take the medicine. Whether you can get these medications with my prescription depends on the local policy of your country. You may have to see your General practitioner to get a prescription. Regardless, be assured this will settle down with time.
I hope this will help you.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thanks for the reply.
What do those medications do, if I may ask? Is it normal to be in discomfort until the urethra heals? I have been still feeling the inflammation in my penis, but glad to hear it will eventually heal.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.
Yes, it is normal for you to feel some discomfort during the healing process. With regards to your question about the medication:
Tablet Trypsin Chymotrypsin helps reduce inflammation.
Tablet Cranpac D (Cranberry and D Mannose) helps keep your urine clean so it does not burn as much when peeing.
A probiotic tablet also helps keep your urine clean.
Tablet Mirabegron 25 mg reduces the urgency and frequency of urination.
Consult a specialist doctor, talk to them, and then take the medication.
I hope this will help you.
Thank you.
