I am 26. Why do I have chest discomfort after lying down?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 26 years old and have been experiencing pain on the left side of my chest, just below the left breast. The area feels numb to the touch. When I lie on my back, it feels as though something is pressing on my heart, causing pain. Holding the area and pulling outward seems to relieve the discomfort somewhat.

For the past four months, I have felt significant pain whenever I consume anything cold. My doctor examined me and confirmed there was no heart issue, prescribing Valdecoxib along with Serratiopeptidase (20 mg), but I did not feel any improvement. I returned to the doctor, who did an X-ray and found that my heart was fine but mentioned an issue with my chest muscles. He then prescribed a painkiller, which helped initially, but I experienced pain again after lifting something heavy.

It has now been four months since I last saw the doctor, and the pain in my chest persists. It moves from the left to the right side and from the upper to the lower chest. I am also experiencing excessive sweating before going to sleep at night.

Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your symptoms do not seem to be related to any cardiac disorders. A lung disorder or acid reflux could be the cause of your complaints. For this reason, I recommend consulting with your attending physician and performing some tests. A chest X-ray study and pulmonary function tests, complete blood count, PCR (polymerase chain reaction), ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) for inflammation, and a fibrogastroscopy. If all these tests result are normal, you should consider anxiety as the main cause of your complaints.

Thanks and regards.
