Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 21-year-old male suffering from a headache for the past week. I did a blood test, and the reports were normal. The next day, I visited a neurologist, who said that my blood pressure was 170/80 mmHg, so he gave me some painkillers, an intramuscular injection, a sublingual tablet, and tablet Bromazepam. I still have high blood pressure and headaches. I again visited another doctor, and he prescribed me antihypertensive medication Captopril twice daily and Dexketoprofen for pain twice daily. Now, my blood pressure is between 120 to 150 mmHg throughout the day. But now I experienced mild heart pain and have planned to visit a cardiologist soon for my chest pain. I want your advice. Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thank you for your query. I reviewed your query. At your age, the combination of high blood pressure and headaches needs to be investigated. One rare but significant cause is a mass in the abdomen known as pheochromocytoma. So you can ask your physician to investigate it. Also, pain can cause transient sharp rises in blood pressure, so if the pain is not exactly arising from the head, you can try and get it treated permanently so a causative factor is removed. Also, consuming too many tablets of Ketoprofen (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) and painkillers can cause kidney damage and can rebound hypertension. I suggest the tablet Captopril (angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors), which will help reduce your blood pressure issues and will help relieve your headache. Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take the medications with their consent. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
