Why does not my daughter improve from cat scratch fever?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My girl is 19-year-old. She has cat scratch fever for the past three months and does not seem to be getting better. Why?

Answered by Dr. Prathap

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com

If there is no improvement in a disease for the past three months, then the primary concern should be the resistance to the traetment used. Bartonella group of organisms causes cat scratch disease. They are more prone to systemic complications. They are atypical bacteria with senstiviy to a few drugs like Doxycycline, Azithromycin, TMP-SMX (Trimethoprim and Sulfamethoxazole), etc. So, review the treatment lines. Consult your treating physician and change the drugs accordingly.

Regards.
