How can candidal balanoposthitis be effectively managed?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a small reddish skin-colored raised line on my penis after I had unprotected sex. But it is painless. Can it be herpes?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

It seems you have balanoposthitis. It is a kind of mild yeast infection. You are suffering from candidal balanoposthitis which is a fungal infection of the foreskin and glans penis. It presents as itching, red spots on the glans, swelling and cracks on the foreskin, and inability to retract it. So, I suggest you use DK (Miconazole) gel twice daily for relief. Herpes presents with grouped blisters with a burning pain sensation. Also, kindly get yourself tested for sexually transmitted diseases after two weeks because you had unprotected sex. Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them, and take medicines with their consent.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for your reply.

I have attached another photo. Can you please tell me if it is genital herpes or not?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I went through the image (the attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). It does not look like herpes genitalis as the clinical classical presentation of herpes would be grouped blisters (water bubbles) on an erythematous base with burning sensation and pain.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
