Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 20-year-old female. I have mild pain in the naval area and below it continuously. Sometimes it gets severe with burning sensation on urination. I get mouth ulcers sometimes, and rarely the pain reaches up to the chest. One year back, I had a problem with urinating, and a few other symptoms and ultrasound suggest cystitis. Kindly help me.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Pain at the naval area especially during the filling phase and pain reduction after passing urine with burning sensation are consistent with inflammation of the bladder, bladder stone, or lower ureteric stone. Inflammation of urinary bladder can be acute or chronic. In your case, it seems to be chronic for more than three months. Chronic inflammation of the bladder can be due to infection or interstitial cystitis. To rule out infection, we need urine for analysis and culture. If urine have no infection then it is mostly interstitial cystitis which a type of long term problem diagnosed on biopsy and responds variably on medications. Stones can be diagnosed with ultrasound. Plan for urine analysis and culture, and ultrasound UB (kidney, ureter, and bladder). Follow up with results so I can initiate the treatment accordingly. Note: If there is no infection, I will treat this as interstitial cystitis and advise you to undergo flexible cystoscopy and bladder biopsy to confirm the diagnosis and then initiate a specialized treatment for that.
I hope this helps.
