Hello doctor,
I think I might have UTI, since I suffer from burning sensation while urinating, and then cloudy urine at the beginning. I did urine examination routine, in which leukocyte esterase was positive, nitrites negative, and high pus cells in urine eight to 10. Also did urine culture after that and nothing such came in it. I had unprotected vaginal sex four months ago. Is there any chance, that this is not UTI but some STD? Please help me.

I have gone through your query and your reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity). I would like to know a few more details to answer your query better: Did you have any fever or lower abdomen pain? For how long do you have these symptoms? Do you have any whitish or pus discharge from your penis other than urination? It is unlikely for an STD to present for four months after sexual contact, also your symptoms are more suggestive of a UTI. It is possible to have a negative urine culture because of sampling errors (the urine specimen given may not have had an adequate bacterial load) or organisms that do not grow in culture or infection of the prostate gland. You would require a detailed clinical examination by a urologist to ascertain the probable cause of UTI and also rule out STD. I would also advise a repeat urine analysis and urine culture and serological tests if you are concerned about the possibility of STD's from the unprotected sexual contact. In the meantime, you can drink plenty of fluids to help flush out any bladder infections.

Thank you doctor,
I had fever and chills for a day, maybe I was exhausted, since I did swimming and wake up early and slept late. No lower abdomen pain. Two months I guess. Started after 15 months after the unprotected sex. No, cloudy urine at the beginning. No, any other discharge or pus. I can repeat the urine tests, but I cannot do the STD test since I would have to involve my parents. Is there any antibiotic I can take for STD which would kill it if there is any possible STD? What is the symptom of STD? Also, any medicines you recommend for UTI? Since I have pus cells high, and leukocyte esterase.

I have gone through your query. If it is an STD you will have discharge from your penis, tenderness. If your urine culture is negative and there is no evidence of any active STD. I cannot prescribe any antibiotics empirically without actually examining you physically. You can take Citralka syrup 1 teaspoon with a glass of water after food for symptomatic relief. I would suggest you visit your local urologist for a detailed clinical examination.
