Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I feel a burning sensation during intercourse. It just started recently, and I took medications. I am not sure if that is its side effect, but it has been one month since I took it, and since then, I have noticed a burning sensation down there after intercourse.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

A burning sensation after intercourse can be either a vaginal or a urine infection. It can also be due to an allergy to the condom (if you use one). So, for now, my suggestion would be to drink plenty of water. Get one complete urine examination done, and till then, as you are having burning and itching, I will prescribe you some medicines, take these, and your symptoms will reduce. Take tablet Fluconazole (Diflucan) 150 mg single dose after food and two tablets of Secnidazole (Ambese) 1 gm single dose after food.

Keep the perineal area dry, wear loose cotton underpants and maintain perineal hygiene. All these things will help you in reversing the symptoms. Along with this, you can take any probiotic for 5 to 7 days to restore the normal flora down there. And no, this usually does not occur as a side effect of plan B, but yes is common after sexual activity.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Can stress or anxiety lead to such problems?

Answered by Dr. Natasha Bansal

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Normally, this does not occur. Pain during or after intercourse can be caused by stress or anxiety, but having a burning sensation and itching cannot be caused by stress. Only infection is the most common cause of this. But do not worry. It is usually mild and can be easily managed with medication. As previously stated, get one test done to rule out urine infection.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
