Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was hoping someone could help me determine what these newfound bumps on my penis are. I have not been sexually active for the past eight months. But recently I have seen three bumps appeared on my penis. They do not cause any discomfort or itching, but I am concerned. They are not in the form of clusters, and there is no discharge from it. But they appear to be red.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please send a few more good quality photographs. It could be molluscum contagiosum.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I have attached one more picture below. I can provide more photos in a short while. Can you please explain to me if it is possible to contract this after eight months? Also is this different from genital warts? If so how, and what is the treatment?

Answered by Dr. Nidhi Jain

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have seen the photos (attachment removed to protect patient identity).

1. It can be transmitted through handshake and then touching the penis through that hand.

2. Wart and molluscum both are a viral infection caused by a different virus.

3. Use Podofilox lotion (Podophyllin), apply twice weekly only over the lesion.

I hope it helps. If you have any other question, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Can you confirm that this is molluscum contagiousum and not genital warts? Also how long does this typically take to go away? Is it dormant and contagious? And can you please make sure that this is not STD?

Answered by Dr. Nidhi Jain

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Wart always has a rough surface, and here the surface is smooth. It usually takes up to four to six months, and it is contagious. It is also a STD. In most cases, it is, so there is nothing to worry. Closest differentiation is sebaceous gland, and the difference could only be made on physical examination.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I would also like to know if I can pop them? They do not seem to be painful when making contact with them and also can you name a few OTC medications that have the Podofilox compound because when I went to my local drug store all I was able to find were acid based solutions for warts.

And I think I am just confused to why I would need wart removal lotion if the bumps I have are not genital warts. I can confirm that there is no dryness, lumpiness or cauliflower-like formation around any of the bumps. I have a doctor appointment after five days to get it checked out to stay safe.

I have also attached multiple pictures below showing the bumps in better quality. Also, I read that they can be scraped off and that apple cider vinegar can potentially be the remedy. Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Please do not pop it up, ask your dermatologist to extract the molluscum bodies from it. Please do not use all those OTC (over the counter) products as they can cause a secondary infection.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
