Can lasers help in healing brown spots on my legs?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 66 years old, and I have brown spots all down my leg. I take the following medications Lisinopril hctz, Gemfibrozil, Atorvastatin, Venlafaxine, and 81 mg Aspirin. I am 5 feet 7 inches, and I weigh 285 pounds. I have a picture of brown spots on my leg. They do itch sometimes. Please advice. Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I suggest you do the following. Apply Aziderm (Azelaic acid) 20 percent cream in the daytime for 20 days. Apply Kojic cream (Kojic acid) at night for 20 days. Use Kojic soap for the bath for two months. Take Tablet Limcee (Vitamin C) 500 mg once a day after breakfast for 30 days. Tablet Antoxid HC (Antioxidant) once at night after food for 30 days. Avoid scratching and rubbing lesions. Apply Venusia Max cream (Moisturizer) or Physiogel Hypoallergenic lotion immediately after bath for two months. I suggest it is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation with scars. It will take time to fade. Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your concern. Will laser remove these? Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, a Co2 (Carbon-dioxide) laser will help with reducing hyperpigmentation. But laser treatments can be done only after the itch is gone. It appears to be a fixed drug eruption with superficial fungal infection. I suggest Tablet Levocetirizine 5 mg at night after food for seven days (if itching is present). As if there is itching, it can be associated with fungal infection or eczema. Regards.
