Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am seeking guidance on managing a case of suspected metastatic breast cancer in a young patient presenting with a small swelling in the breast. Kindly help me with the following -
Any insights into optimizing treatment success and long-term monitoring for recurrence would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
The diagnosis of breast cancer can be done by biopsy. A biopsy of the suspected lump is mandatory. Once the cancer is confirmed, the next step will be to stage the disease by positron emission tomography (PET) scan. The choice of treatment depends upon the molecular profile of the tumor.
All patients need surgery, but some may need it after initial chemotherapy and others before chemotherapy (chemotherapy is a drug used to treat cancer with powerful chemicals to kill the fast-growing cells in the body). In early-stage hormone-positive breast cancer, the chances of cure are very high.
After completion of the treatment, the patient will be put on regular oncology follow-up every three months.
I hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
