What could be the cause of sudden falling into a dream and coming back to reality after a brain injury?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a subdural hematoma brain injury from an accident and short-term memory loss. But my question is when I was riding down the road, and doing makeup, all of a sudden I snapped into a dream that was so surreal and it was like I am at my grandparent's house talking to family and just joking around with everyone watching television, and all of a sudden snapped back to reality. It felt so real and my head is hurting a lot. Should I be worried?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You should be worried about your subdural hematoma when you get a severe headache or nausea, vomiting, or any minor head trauma.

The episode you described is a hallucination. Also, you have short-term memory loss. Both signs suggest early-onset dementia.

Here is what you should do:

Basic blood investigations like CBC (complete blood count), vitamin B12, and TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone).

MMSE (mini-mental state) examination (you can ask your relative to perform this test which is available on the internet).

This is not a serious issue to worry about as you are still very young.

Do write back for further assistance or query.
