What causes persistent body odor despite improved hygiene?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 24 year old boy. Despite my efforts to maintain good hygiene, I have been experiencing a bad body odor. It has become quite bothersome and is affecting my confidence in social situations. I would greatly appreciate any advice or recommendations you could provide on how to manage and eliminate body odor. Also, are there any underlying medical conditions that could be contributing to this issue?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Make sure to avoid any cream, lotion, powder, salon treatments, oil, massages, perfumes, deodorant, etc. Use non-fragrant soap. Keep yourself well hydrated. Wear loose cotton comfortable clothes and under clothes. Try wearing a cotton vest with sleeves. Practice walking, yoga, and exercise as health permits. Lastly, get physically examined and investigated, as certain medical conditions can lead to body odors, and they must be diagnosed and treated accordingly. Take ORS (oral rehydration solution) unless otherwise indicated to maintain adequate electrolyte balance. Avoid stress and strain. Rule out hormonal imbalance, thyroid imbalance, diabetes, etc.

  1. Are you taking any medications currently?

  2. Are you an alcoholic or smoker?

I hope this helps you.

Revert with answers to the above questions.

Regards.
