Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My two-year-old grandson woke up with a blood sugar level of 47 mg/dl this morning. He experienced chills, vomiting, and appeared disoriented. We took him to the ER, where he underwent various blood and metabolic tests, including a thyroid test, for about seven hours. Throughout the day, his blood sugar levels ranged from 45 to 202. His father has type 1 diabetes, but the ER did not confirm whether our grandson has diabetes. They advised us to follow up with an endocrinologist. A few months ago, he had an enlarged liver, but tests did not find anything conclusive. Although we hope it is not diabetes, we are concerned about other possible causes. Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
It seems your grandson experienced a hypoglycemic (low sugar in the blood) episode, but I cannot definitively conclude its cause with the provided information. While it hints at a possible endocrine issue, I need the results of the pending tests for a clearer picture. It is essential to know if your grandson was taking any medications, as this information could assist in diagnosis. Please share the test results when available.
I hope this helps.
For further inquiries, feel free to consult me at icliniq.com.
Thank you.
