What causes high blood pressure despite taking medicines?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My wife had a tingling sensation in her left arm and leg five months ago and was treated later. She has high blood pressure and was given Micardis 80 mg, Norvasc 5 mg, and anxiety medicine, Dolo 50 mg; she started with a half tablet, and now it is three. Also, Xanax R 0.5 mg. Still, her blood pressure is high in the mornings till late afternoon, and she feels discomfort. She was advised to take Xanax 0.5 mg when this happens. We are lost as to what is wrong with her. We feel no doctor can pinpoint the root of this. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Check your blood glucose (fasting and post-prandial) to rule out diabetes, as tingling can be a symptom. For blood pressure, you can take a tablet with 40 milligrams Telmisartan and 12.5 milligrams Hydrochlorothiazide dose of 40 milligrams twice a day and increase Amlodipine besylate to 5 milligrams twice. If they are also not controlled, we need to add some diuretic medicine. Also, do a renal Doppler to check for any renal artery stenosis that may be caused by high blood pressure. I hope you have done ECG (electrocardiography), ECHO (echocardiography), and TMT (treadmill test) to rule out coronary artery disease.

I hope this helps.

Please revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.
