Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My father was diagnosed with IBS and has suffered from severe indigestion and bloating over the years. Recently, he has put on some weight, and his bloating has worsened. He has difficulty sleeping at night after meals. What could be the reason for worsened symptoms? Is it because of weight gain?
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
Your father's bloating is due to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is a group of intestinal symptoms that can include abdominal cramping, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, and gas. I suggest the following.
1. Avoid stress.
2. Avoid smoking and excess beverages.
3. Fiber-rich foods should be included more in the diet.
4. Eat meals slowly.
5. Reducing weight and exercise will be beneficial.
Specific drugs like Lubiprostone capsules can be prescribed for irritable bowel syndrome. Consult a gastroenterologist for further examination.
I hope this will help.
Thank you.
