This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have black marks on my face. The marks are due to pimples, and they are old. I tried a lot of home remedies, but they have not faded. Kindly give suggestions for removing these marks permanently so that I have a clear face. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen your query and concern.

I examined your picture (the attachment is hidden to protect the patient's identity). Acne is a chronic problem. It has a variable course with medication. It requires regular follow-up and long treatment. It usually occurs up to the age of 25 to 28 years and may be more than this. Once the acne lesions heal, they leave acne scars, but these acne scars heal with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) for a short duration in light-skinned individuals. But in darker individuals, these PIH persist for a longer duration, maybe for two to three weeks, but this duration can be curtailed by using depigmenting cream, sunscreen, and also sun protection. I suggest you use Depiwhite cream (Aqua, Butylene glycol, Glycerin, and Glyceryl stearate) or Adaplene gel 0.1 % during night daily and also use noncomedogenic sunscreen like Face guard (silicon elastomers, Oxynex St, and scone blastomers blend) or Suncros soft gel (Cyclopentasiloxane and zinc oxide) with SPF (sun-protection factor) 50+ during morning hours all over face after taking bath repeat once after four hours. You have to do certain dietary restrictions like not eating oily spicy food, junk food, milk products, and non-vegetarian foods. Use lots of water which hydrates your skin. Also, use good quality face wash like Cutiwash soft foam gel (Aqua, Cocamidopropyl betaine, lactic acid, and propylene glycol) for cleaning your face twice daily. Do not use hair oil, as it aggravates forehead acne.

Hope this addresses your concern.

Kind regards.
