Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 52-year-old male. My height is 5.10 feet, and weight is 154 pounds. I have an enlarged prostate problem since age 43 years. My last scan was done before six years, showing 27 cc in volume and a calculus measuring 6.0 mm is seen in the lower pole. Kidney stone is not giving any trouble and it is there for the past 10 years. Sometimes size becomes 2.5, 3.0, 5.0 last was 6.0. PSA latest was also done before eight years, the value was 1.2. Symptoms include trouble starting urine weak stream and in the start and end dribbling. If I drink a lot of water then stream is normal and less dribbling. No weight loss or no blood in urine. Also, taking Quitipine 50 mg and Fluvoxin 50 mg for OCD. No constipation problem. No hypertension or diabetes. No family history of prostate cancer to brothers or fathers. My father had throat cancer at the age of 72. Please advice.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with lower urinary tract symptoms. Prostate size is not really important some times, people with 20 gm prostate have symptoms and people with 200 gm have no issues. The shape of prostate can cause blockage to urine at any size. Two main treatment modalities are proposed one is medical with drugs and second is surgical which is reserved for patients only not responding to medications. Medications include, combination of alpha-blockers and 5-alpha reductase inhibitors will give best results. You can start capsule Doudart once at night before bed daily. Follow up with PSA creatinine will be important every six months. Treatment for constipation with tablet Bisacodyl 5 mg twice daily is very important. Please take the above two medications continuously and I hope u will be much better.

Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
