Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am 27 years old without any symptoms. But I have excessive belching every 10 minutes and a discomfort sensation even when I do not drink or eat. I am having this issue for four days.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Actually, your symptoms which are of short duration commonly occur due to the food taken before a couple of days. It causes excessive belching. It is a common thing to happen to anybody. Please remember whether you have eaten something that explains these symptoms particularly diet or beverage rich in fructose, sugar, or milk protein. Milkshakes, juices, alcohol, and raw vegetables or salads often cause excessive belching. If there is nothing like the above, then it may be due to a functional cause meaning there is a functional problem with the esophageal junction. Supragastric belching presents when the problem is above this junction and infra gastric belching presents when the cause is below this junction. Please mention whether you noticed any particular food taken in these days.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
All my problems started last week. I felt a puke sensation and I could not able to eat after having a belching sensation every 10 minutes. Why?
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Take some medications and let me know if it is coming again after two days. If there is no improvement, I will suggest another strategy, like thoroughly investigating with some blood tests and endoscopy. Since it is a short duration, there is no need to take much except some medications. You can take tablet Rifaximin (antibiotic) 200 mg thrice daily for three days, tablet Domperidone (antiemetic) 10 mg thrice daily before half an hour of taking meals, tablet Baclofen (muscle relaxants) 10 mg twice daily before half an hour of taking meals. Take all three medications for three days. Meanwhile avoid milk, milk-based diets and home-cooked meals is ok. Avoid juices particularly pulp juices. Let me know in two to three days.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
Can I take Rifaximin and Domperidone alone? Because, I read that Baclofen can cause bad adverse reactions. Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Sorry for the late reply. Yeah, you can do that. Actually, Baclofen is relatively safe and I have been using this medication for a quite long time. It basically closes the junction present in between the stomach and esophagus, thus how it prevents belching which is coming from the stomach. But it is ok if you want to try it later if no improvement is felt with the prior two medications. It is completely ok.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
I felt better for almost seven days. But since yesterday, it started again. I cannot drink or eat due to the belching sensation felt every 10 minutes.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Hello, I welcome you again on icliniq. Have you been using these medications now or have stopped them? You can re-start the medications namely, Domperidone 10 mg thrice daily and capsule Esomeprazole 40 mg once daily. It is new to the above regimen. It is an acid suppressant medication, sometimes acid reflux is the cause of this. Use Baclofen 10 mg once or twice daily, half an hour before your major meals. It causes some sedation or sleepiness, so you can use it at night time only. Take all these for at least 2 weeks. If you do not feel any improvement within the next 72 hours, start taking tablet Stemetil (Prochlorperazine) thrice daily for three days only. I hope this improves your problem. Meanwhile also get some blood investigations such as complete blood count, urea, creatinine, electrolytes, liver function tests. Let me know once the blood tests reports are available.
