Will removing a vaginal cyst during pregnancy harm my baby?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 19 weeks pregnant. For one week, I had swelling in the vagina. I consulted a doctor, and she told me that it is a Bartholin cyst. She told me to clear it; we have to give anesthesia for treatment, and that will not affect the baby. My family is very confused about whether it is safe for the baby or not.

Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Bartholin cyst requires excision or marsupialization. It is a short-term procedure and does not take much time. Usually, the medications used do not affect the baby.

Do not worry, get it done.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
