Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 51-year-old male, with a height of 5 feet 6 inches. My problem is balanitis. There is an unpleasant smell, redness around the glans, inflammation, soreness, itchiness, or irritation of the glans. Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
If the symptoms have been present for a week, did you take any medicines or cream for those? Did you start any antibiotics? How is your personal hygiene? Can you take a picture of the affected area with retracted foreskin and send it? Are you circumcised?
For balanitis, a treatment course typically includes Ciprofloxacin, Tinidazole, or Ofloxacin, along with along with Ornidazole, anti-inflammatory medicines and local application creams. Additionally, rinsing the affected area with lukewarm water twice daily can be helpful. It is also advisable to refrain from sexual activities until the condition improves.
Could you provide more details about your situation? Are you diabetic or do you have any other medical conditions for which you take medications regularly?
Please let me know if you need any help.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
I want only an ointment. My personal hygiene is good, and I am not diabetic. I am not taking any other medicines.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I suggest you take Neosporin-H (Polymyxin B 5000 units, Neomycin 3400 units, Bacitracin 400 units, and Hydrocortisone 10 mg) ointment. Apply it after washing with lukewarm water twice daily. Consult your doctor and take it accordingly. Wash off before applying each time. Wear loose-fitting clothes in that area.
Do revert if you need any further help.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
Why this happened? And is this normal? What is the cause? Please advise.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
It occurs due to improper hygiene, or diabetes. In many, it can occur due to no reason. Moisture issues and dampness can also cause balanitis (pain and inflammation of the penis). It can occur if you use the same clothes for a longer duration, or if your groin area is more prone to sweating. Check for vitamin deficiencies. When did you check your sugars?
Please let me know if you need any help.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
I have not used Neosporin H, only focused on cleaning with warm water. Now the latest photo is attached. Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
It appears slightly better. You could have tried the antibiotic ointment for faster relief. Nevertheless, how is unpleasant smell, soreness, and itching? Has it been reduced or still present? Any other significant symptoms? Any pain or fever?
I hope that you get your answer.
Please let me know if you need any help.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
After using ointment it has recovered. But let me know how long I have to use this. If I discontinue it for two days, itching will start again. Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Please check your sugar levels and let me know. You may need a course of antifungal also. Continue the ointment for now till we get your sugars.
Please let me know if you need any help.
Thank you.
