How to treat fever and vomiting episodes in a 1-year-old?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 1-year-old daughter suffers from fever and vomiting that started eight days ago and recur after three days. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

If the temperature is 37.5 C or more, I suggest you can give syrup Crocin DS (240 mg/ml) (Paracetamol) (dose as per the weight of the child) SOS four to six hourly. If the temperature is 38.8 C or more, you can give a syrup Ibugesic plus (Ibuprofen and Paracetamol) (dose as per the weight of the child) as and when required six to eight hours. For vomiting, I suggest you give her a syrup of Ondem (Ondansetron and Paracetamol ) (dose as per the weight of the child) thrice a day for three days (to be taken half an hour before food or water). Watch for dehydration, lethargy, and refusal to feed. If there is no improvement or worsening, take the child to the nearest hospital. If the temperature stays above 37.5 C for more than three days or if the temperature crosses 39.5 C, it is advisable to get evaluated physically by a pediatrician with possible blood investigations based on physical examination.

Thank you.
